DO NOT SMOKE OR HAVE OPEN FLAME
When doing the blockguard!! Perform this install in a well ventilated area!
! WARNING !
We strongly suggest having a trained technician perform the blockguard
install. Do not attempt to perform this installation procedure if you are not very familiar
with how the engine system works. Incorrect disassembly or re-assembly of the engine
system could lead to extensive engine damage, fire or personal injury! Always have a
shop manual on hand for reference when performing the blockguard install.
1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and open the gas cap to relieve
any pressure in the fuel system.
2. Refer to a shop manual for the removal of the head and it’s components.
3.
After the head is removed and placed out of the way in a clean area and the head
gasket is removed from the block, now you are ready to do the blockguard install.
4. Drain all the coolant from the block. Take the blockguard and “Test” fit it into
your block fitting around the cylinder walls in the coolant passage. Make sure
that the chamfered edges are facing down!!! This is important for proper
fit!!!
5. Some grinding of the blockguard may have to be done depending on your block. If
so, we suggest using a belt sander or a die grinder and a skilled hand for this
operation. The blockguard should fit tight, but should not be a “Pound” in item.
Clearance the blockguard until you think it will be a very snug fit.
6. Tap the blockguard down until it is a little below flush with the block deck. Some
times your block may need to be re-honed as the blockguard installation may
cause your cylinders to go out of round. This is an easy job for any local engine
machine shop and can cost a small amount. We highly suggest to have this
operation performed by a professional which would include removal of the motor
and it’s internals!
7.
Once the blockguard is in and everything is in order, then you can replace your
head and it’s components. Be sure to replace the head gasket. If you need a custom
size gasket, we also supply factory over-bored head gaskets in almost any bore
size imaginable. Call us (909) 592 – 4311.
8.
Refer to your shop manual for the complete replacement of the head and follow all
it’s check-lists before engine start-up.
9.
Tidy up the wiring and put the key into the ignition and turn it to the ON position.
Turn off the power and back to the ON position a few times to prime the fuel
pump. Look for any fuel leaks. If there are none, you can start up the car and make
sure there are no leaks! Again, we always suggest to have a shop manual on hand
for reference on this install.
Again, we thank you for your purchase and we are always here for your input.
